RECORDED DELIVERY TO THE ALGARVE

RECORDED DELIVERY TO THE ALGARVE
Inspired by James chapter 1, New Living Translation

To all my scattered relatives in Christ,
your brother James sends greetings
heartily.

Troubles are sure to visit you
– that is a fact of life –
even on holiday.
Always bid them welcome,
make them feel at home,
show them hospitality.
Give them the chance
to fill your life with joy
– eventually.

Endurance only grows from faith
if that faith is tested out
– repeatedly.

Patience is neither unripe bud
nor blossom bursting with sweet scent
instantaneously,
but mellow fruit produced
from pressures of all sorts
handled victoriously.

Only when thoroughly trained
will you earn your
full degree –
‘Name Name R.F.A.P.’ –
Ready For Any
Possibility.

You will need wisdom
to know which intrusions
to reject decisively.
Ask Father to show you
which pressure is which, then …
listen carefully;
but request it in faith
without ifs and maybes
hesitatingly,
like breakers
that visit the beach
so shiftily,
that strike your legs landward
then suck your feet seaward
alternately.

Our unswerving Father
has no tidal moods
of inconsistency.
No temptation to quit comes from him
but from our fickle feelings. He chose us
intentionally.
to share in his pilot scheme,
– phase one, cosmic renewal –
begot us purposely.

Analytic cynicism
will strand you on the sand,
tempestuous anger
sweep you out to sea.

Hear what he says,
then translate it into action
obediently.

Step from the waves and from the sand
onto the car park tarmac
resolutely.

I’ll not ride pillion to your fear;
let’s ditch it here
deliberately.

May I chauffeur you
in my car of faith
temporarily? –
until you can carry others
in the taxi of your faith
confidently.
